Why Titanium
A material for things that last.
Titanium is lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and quietly dependable. Wherever an object comes into daily contact with skin, hands, water, and air, that makes it a compelling starting point.
Quietly capable for every day
A material does not need to be loud to do a lot. Titanium combines low weight with high strength and a surface that does not quickly tarnish or corrode in everyday use.
For jewelry, cutlery, and keychains, it also matters that the form, finish, and origin can be traced. The material name alone is therefore not a substitute for a clear specification.
Light on the skin
Titanium feels pleasantly light in daily use. For jewelry, that means less weight on the body without making the piece feel fragile.
Steady through daily life
Its protective oxide layer makes titanium highly corrosion-resistant. Sweat, moisture, and frequent handling are therefore less problematic than with many unprotected metals.
A strong basis for sensitive skin
Unalloyed Grade 2 titanium has no intentionally added nickel alloy. That makes it an interesting choice for pieces worn close to the skin — provided the exact material and processing are documented.
Nickel and skin compatibility
Nickel is one of the most common triggers of allergic contact dermatitis. What matters is not only whether nickel is present in an object, but how much can be released through its surface.
This is why REACH limits nickel release from items intended for prolonged skin contact in the EU. For jewelry, a clear material specification and a controlled finish are worth more than a vague promise such as “hypoallergenic”.
The question is not only: What shines? It is also: What comes into daily contact with you?
Why we prefer Grade 2
Grade 2 is commercially pure, unalloyed titanium. It offers a balanced mix of formability, strength, and corrosion resistance — well suited to jewelry and many small everyday objects.
| Grade | Classification | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 | Commercially pure titanium | Grade 2 is the practical middle ground for light, skin-close products. |
| 3–4 | Also unalloyed, but stronger | Higher oxygen and iron levels can increase strength and reduce formability. |
| 5 | Ti-6Al-4V, an alloy | Not automatically incompatible, but not equivalent to commercially pure Grade 2. |
Important: A higher grade is not automatically less compatible. Skin compatibility depends on the exact composition, finish, manufacturing, and possible contamination. If you have a known allergy, ask the supplier for material documentation and nickel release data.
One material, three everyday roles
Jewelry — Light, understated, and interesting for pieces worn close to the skin. The finish and nickel release remain decisive.
Cutlery — Corrosion resistance and low weight are practical advantages. For food contact, the finished product must meet the applicable requirements.
Keychains — A good companion for bags and keys: stable, light, and unfazed by daily handling.
